Pete Ann Norrell

“To everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under the heavens.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 A Time to Be Born: Pete Ann Norrell, 71, a loving wife, mother, Nana, sister, and friend, was born February 13, 1943 in Dallas, TX to Watson Cleveland and Anna (Harris) McDonald. Pete Ann married Larry Mac Norrell on December 26, 1964. They were married for 49 years and lived in Lancaster, Dallas and Waxahachie, TX. Pete Ann graduated from Palmer High School. A Time to Work: After graduation, she went to work at Southern Union Gas Company until her first child was born. She was a dedicated mother that was always home when her children were home. After they went to college, she went to work at PBM Laboratories for 17 years. A Time to Laugh and to Play: Pete Ann delighted in her children and grandchildren. She loved cooking for them, hugging them, and playing endless games of SkipBo and Wahoo with them and anyone else who would play. She loved high school basketball and traveled to many sporting and other school events of her beloved grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Pete Ann was immensely proud of her husband, his accomplishments, his garden, and his fish, as well as her children’s careers and the lives they are leading. She collected cats, angels, Santa ornaments from her travels, and a very special herd of buffalo. She loved music, Garth Brooks concerts, and dancing of any kind. Her adventurous spirit and giggle, even when she became ill, were infectious and led her family and friends on many spur-of-the-moment road trips. Her many lifelong friends have held her and her family close through her ALS journey, sharing laughter, tears and priceless memories, for which her family is grateful. A Time to Embrace: Pete Ann was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waxahachie, TX. She previously had been a faithful member of the Share Group of First United Methodist Church of Lancaster, TX and the Pacesetter Sunday School Class of Owenwood United Methodist Church of Dallas, TX. A Time to Die: Pete Ann Norrell peacefully departed this life at her home surrounded by her family on August 21, 2014 after a gracious, inspiring, and courageous battle against ALS. Pete Ann was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Larry Mac Norrell, daughter Kim Norrell, son, Brian Norrell and his wife Missy, grandchildren Mary-Kate and Nicholas, and brother Eddie McDonald and his wife Sandra. Precious brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews too numerous to list have also filled her life with love. A Time to Be Silent and a Time to Speak: ALS may have silenced her voice but those who remain will always remember and tell the stories of her joy for life and love for her family. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 24, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Byrum Funeral Home in Lancaster, TX. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 25, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Waxahachie, TX with a private burial later that afternoon in Mabank, TX In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in honor of Pete Ann Norrell (12655 N. Central Expressway Suite 230, Dallas, TX 75243).
