She died at age 98 of natural causes on Thursday, November 19, 2020, at CC Young Senior Living in Dallas, TX. She was the third of four children of parents Lucy and Esley Patterson. Curley graduated from Wilmer-Hutchins High School, and her first job was at Sanger Brothers Department Store in downtown Dallas. Curley married her high school sweetheart Hubert Doyle May just before WWII. After the war, they lived and raised their family in Lancaster, TX. During the ‘70s, she helped her husband operate H. Doyle May & Associates, a regional office supply wholesaler. After retirement, she worked with her good friend Virginia Childress at Virginia’s Dress Shop in Lancaster and DeSoto, TX. She and her daughter, Diane, survived the devastating Lancaster tornado in 1994 that destroyed the family home. Upon moving to Dallas, she served for many years as a volunteer for the Dallas Arboretum. She is preceded in death by her siblings and her husband. She is survived by her daughter Diane May Mayo and son Douglas May and his wife Lynn Bernick. Additional family members include grandson Thomas Gregory Mayo and his wife Pam Smith Mayo, grandson Jason Mayo and his husband John Lewis, and grandsons Parker May and Alec May. Curley also leaves behind two great-grandsons Adam Mayo and Jonathan Mayo, Jonathan’s wife Whitney Mayo, and a great-great-granddaughter Vivien Mayo. Curley will be missed by other close relatives and many friends throughout the country. Due to Covid-19, the family requests a private funeral service. Please stay home and be safe.
