Ben D. Atwell, IV, was born February 7, 1948 in Dallas, TX and passed from this life on February 12, 2024 in Hutchins, TX.
Ben was affectionately known and loved by many. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and retired as a Purple Heart Veteran. He loved everyone and never met a stranger. Everyone who had the privilege to know him will remember him as a great man with the biggest heart. Ben loved Nascar Racing, enjoyed building and working on cars, Bob Segar sing-a-longs, playing dominoes, solitaire, and cracking jokes. Most of all, he was a huge animal lover.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ben "Jumbo" Atwell; his mother, Jackie Gray Josey; and his sister, Sandy Purdy.
Ben's memories will forever linger in the hearts of his wife, Arlyne Atwell; his brother, Jim Foster and wife Anita; his children, Angela Atwell Didehbani and husband Dominic, Michael Locke and wife Kim, Kenneth Taylor & Renda Stacks, Christ Ryals, and Jacob Carter; his grandchildren, Abbi Maguffee, Trent Atwell, Rhonda Cannifax, Alexis Ryals, Jaycee Carter, Waylon Locke, Lucas Didehbani, Alyssa Taylor, and Anthony Taylor; his great-grandchildren, Addison Small, Ace Paris, Benjamin Atwell, Jaxson Atwell, and Weston Atwell; and his nephew, Billy Ray Purdy.
Family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Byrum Funeral Home Chapel. A celebration of Ben's life will be held at 11:00am on Friday, February 16, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Hutchins with interment to follow in Hutchins Cemetery.
The celebration will continue at Ben's house, 401 1st Street, Hutchins, TX 75141, following the service for lunch with the family.
