Obituary

Duane Garland McKinney, 77, was a husband, father, grandfather, teacher, church elder and friend – and he was in love with Jesus. He left this world on July 26, 2023.

Duane was born on Dec. 12, 1945, in Harlingen, Texas, to Garland and Corine McKinney. He graduated from Donna High School in the Rio Grande Valley. Duane met his wife Diana on a mission trip while attending Harding University, where he earned a Bible degree. In June 2023, they celebrated 53 years of marriage.

Duane was a science and math teacher for three decades in Texas and Arkansas, including 20 years with the Dallas Independent School District. After retiring from teaching, he continued to stay active in church work, gardening, driving a school bus, traveling and spending time with his wife and grandchildren.

Duane is survived by his wife, Diana; sons, Matt (wife, Karen) of Garland and Seth (wife, Suzanne) of Waxahachie; and six grandchildren: Kristen, Jackson, Anna, Matthew, Jacob and Abigail. He is also survived by three siblings: brother, Terry (wife, Annette) of Rockwall; sister, Karalene Jordan (husband, David) of Clarksville, Arkansas; and brother, Twig (wife, Joy) of Alpena, Arkansas, along with extended family and friends.

A celebration of Duane's life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, at Creekside Church in Midlothian. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service.
