Finley Latham Edmonds, 81, passed away on September 27, 2026, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Finley was born on December 28, 1944, in Dallas, Texas, to Ira W. Edmonds and Frances Terrell Edmonds. He grew up in Lancaster, Texas, where he graduated as valedictorian of Lancaster High School in 1963.

He continued his education at Rice University, where he majored in political science, before earning his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law in 1970. Finley went on to enjoy a distinguished legal career, practicing law in Corpus Christi, Texas, from 1970 until 2022. Among the highlights of his career was the extraordinary opportunity to argue a case before the United States Supreme Court in 1980.

In 1967, Finley married Carol Louise Smith. Together they built a life centered around family, and Finley treasured the time he spent with those he loved most.

He had a great love for music, sports, reading, history, fine dining, and good wine. More than his accomplishments or interests, however, Finley will be remembered for the way he treated people. He was funny and kind, never knew a stranger, and was always smiling. Humble, compassionate, and generous, Finley had a genuine warmth that made others feel welcome and at ease.

Finley was preceded in death by his father, Ira W. Edmonds, and his mother, Frances Terrell Edmonds.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Louise Edmonds; his daughter, Laurie Diana Simpson and her husband, Sam; his sons, Robb D. Edmonds and his wife, Emily, and Brian L. Edmonds and his wife, Allison; and his beloved grandchildren, Katie, Cara, Carlie, and Drew Edmonds.

Finley leaves behind a life marked by accomplishment, kindness, generosity, and an abiding love for his family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Family will receive friends at visitation on Monday, October 5, 2026, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Byrum Funeral Home Chapel. A celebration of Finley’s life will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Edgewood Cemetery in Lancaster.
