Gary Andrew Granello was born on April 3, 1948 to Andrew Adolphe Granello and Shirley Elizabeth Ingersoll at Mercer County Hospital in Trenton, N.J., and was brought home to the family home in Hightstown, N. J. He passed away on February19, 2025 in Dallas, TX.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Scotty Jude Duet.

Gary is survived by his wife of fifty years, Cheryl (Sherry) Barrilleaux Granello. He is survived by one brother, Gregory A Granello and one sister, Renée DePalma of Coruña, España. He is also survived by two sons, John Granello (Guadalupe) and Nicholas Granello (David); his grandchildren, Michaela, Helen, John Paul, and Gabriela Granello. Also surviving him are his four nephews and one niece, André Granello, Gerami Granello, Eric Barrilleaux, Dominic Granello, and Maria Granello.

Gary's early schooling was with several Benedictine and Salesian convents and monasteries in Florida, his childhood home. Gary graduated high school in 1966 from St. Stanislaus College in Bay St. Louis, MS, where he excelled academically, was a standout forward on the basketball team and editor of the Rock-A-Chaw, the school paper. He attended the University of Arkansas and the University of Southwestern Louisiana where he met Sherry.

Gary and Sherry married and moved to New Orleans in 1974. Their two sons were born in New Orleans. In 1984, the family moved to Lancaster, TX where they lived until moving to Ovilla in 2006.

In his youth, Gary had a talent and an interest in chemistry and built that into extensive knowledge about industrial coatings formulations. He had his first chemistry set and a lab space at age ten, and he converted that experience to a profession and career after college. He was employed by several paint manufacturing companies until becoming a salesman and vice president of a distributing firm carrying various paint and coatings lines. He sold his ownership interest in D&F and retired in 2015.

Gary was a talented woodworker and hand built many pieces of furniture still in use today. His prized piece is a cradle of cherry wood, hand-built with traditional techniques. His children, nephews and niece, and his grandchildren all slept in that hand-made cradle.

Gary will be missed, by his industry colleagues who depended on his unmatched expertise, by his friends who depended on him, and most of all by his family, for whom he generously provided all his life.

Family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Byrum Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00am on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Lancaster will graveside immediately following at Edgewood Cemetery.
