John Wayne King passed away April 18,2026, at Charlton Hospital. There will be a visitation for John at Byrum Funeral Home on Monday, April 27, 2026 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. A memorial service will be held at Byrum Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at 11:00am. Graveside service will be held at Edgewood Cemetery following the service. Officiating the service will be Minister Stephen Bailey of Brown Street Church of Christ.

John was born on March 3,1958, in Dallas, Texas to Charles E. King and Freddie Mae King. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1976 and then attended the University of North Texas where he graduated in 1981 with a bachelor's degree. He continued his education by going to Baylor College of Dentistry of Dallas, where he began his career as a doctor in 1985.

John started his life suffering from scoliosis. His first of many back surgeries was at the age of 17. He spent a year in a full body cast. He continued working as a dentist until he physically could no longer practice. After all the surgeries, John's back was completely fused, resulting in him being unable to bend or work. This pushed him into retirement allowing him to spend time growing plants and flowers. He had an amazing 'green thumb.' He was able to grow beautiful flowers and plants and rescue the ones his sisters almost killed! John also enjoyed traveling. He was able to ski and go on cruises before his back prevented him from doing the things he loved.

John is survived by his sisters, Laura King and Marianna Larkin; his niece, Julie Carroll, her husband Josh Carroll of Waxahachie, and their son Charles Carroll; his nephew, Tim Larkin and his wife Heather Larkin along with their children Kye, Abby, Gianna and Beckton. John is also survived by many cousins and friends.
