Jose Angel "Jelo" Gonzales was born November 15, 1942 in Brownsville, TX to Wenselao and Maria Ladesma Gonzales and passed from this life on September 9, 2021 at his home in Red Oak, TX.

Angel had a lot of loves. He loved spending time in his garden, and he loved going fishing. More than these, Angel loved having a good beer while cooking out with his beloved family.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jose Angel Gonzales, Jr; his brothers, Ernesto Gonzales and Chon Gonzales; his sisters, Francis Cruz and Connie Gonzales; and his parents.

Angel is survived by his loving wife, Donna Sue Gonzales; his children, Maria Vasquez and husband Jose Luis, Juan Jesus Gonzales and wife Adela, Carlos Gonzales and wife Jessica, Maricela Garza and husband Ruben, Doralicia Gonzales, Estaban Gonzales and wife Joann, Amy Sue Renn, and John Henry Smith, Jr.; 27 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; his brothers, Roberto Gonzales and Raul Gonzales both of Illinois; his sister, Anita Cantu; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Monday, September 13, 2021 at Byrum Funeral Home in Lancaster. A celebration of Angel's life will be at 1:00pm on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 also in Byrum Chapel. Graveside service will be at 3:00pm in Red Oak Cemetery.
