It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kathleen Murrell Fitzhugh, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was born on June 22, 1943 in Tylertown, Mississippi. She departed this world on July 12, 2023 in Waxahachie, Texas at the age of 80 after a valiant battle with cancer, demonstrating her unwavering strength and determination until the end.

Kathleen was the second of three children born to the late Leonard and Lora Murrell. She spent her childhood, youth and young adult life in the state of Louisiana.

Kathleen graduated from Louisiana College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. After graduation, she began her career in the classroom. After a few years of service in Louisiana, she moved to Texas and taught many young students how to read and write.

After 35 years teaching first graders, she retired and began to volunteer at the Lancaster Outreach Center. One of Kathleen's favorite places was her home church of First Baptist Lancaster where she was a member for almost 50 years. She loved music and used her talents in the adult and senior adult choirs. She also played the piano and participated in the handbell choir.

Kathleen will be remembered for her warm smile, gentle nature, and unwavering loyalty. She touched the lives of many with her kindness and generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Kathleen is survived by her sister, Susan Martin; her children, Jeff Fitzhugh and wife Angie, Allison Douthit and husband Danny; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Fitzhugh, Bryson Douthit, Brenna Douthit, Ezekiel Fitzhugh, Brooke Douthit and Eli Fitzhugh as well as many additional cousins, nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A celebration of Kathleen's life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Lancaster, Texas with visitation beginning at 10:00am.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all who have reached out with messages of support and condolence during this difficult time. May we find comfort in the cherished memories we shared with Kathleen and in the knowledge that her spirit will forever live with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
