Lois passed from this life on October 25, 2020 at home. She was the first-born child of Harvey and Edna Wines in Plaska, Texas in Hall County on September 22, 1931. She lived and attended school in Memphis, Texas and went on to earn a Bachelor of Music degree at Howard Payne University in 1953.

She was married to Bill Hitt for 40 years and lived and taught piano in Lancaster where she was a member of First Baptist Church and served as pianist for 58 years. Lois married Art Gilmer in 2001, and after his death, she married Billy Holmes in 2008.

Lois loved teaching piano for over 60 years. She not only taught her students music, but also taught them life lessons. Each student was very special to her. She played for local funeral services, weddings, civic events and enjoyed being asked to play for various religious congregations.

She had many interests in her life such as ceramics, collecting pottery, growing African Violets, feeding wild birds, rock collecting, and entering food contests at the State Fair of Texas. Lois loved life and tried to live every day to the fullest.

Lois is survived by her daughter, Holly Hitt Niner and husband Jay; her grandchildren, Jayson, Hanna, Hayden and Hunter Niner; her sister, Kay Schreier and husband Jim; her brother, Jim Edd Wines and wife Penny; her daughter-in-law, Deann Hitt; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Hitt.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Marcela Valquez for all of her love and care. She gave Lois her wish of staying home until she was called to her heavenly home.
