Louis James Prasifka born September 19, 1936 in Coppell, Texas and passed away on October 7, 2026 in Dallas, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom & Agnes (Dobecka) Prasifka; his in-laws, Jink & Mary Louise (Rheinlander) McMillan; his son, Joseph; his sisters, Evelyn Macik (Stanley), Martha Hunt (Daniel); and his brothers, Frank Prasifka (Barbara), Jerry Prasifka (Dorinda), Tim Prasifka

Louis is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Lou Ann (McMillan) Prasifka; his children, Lisa Athens (Larry Reasonover), Debbie Mills (Howard), Jimmy Prasifka (Trista), and Stacie Land (Lonnie); his grandchildren, Amanda Pitts (Kyle), Jacob Parker (Ashlie), Luke Athens, Colten Prasifka, Libby Land, Alayna Prasifka, and Brynna Prasifka; his great-grandchildren, Harlow and Kase Parker; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Prasifka; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Louis was a man of unwavering faith, hard work, and devotion to his family. Throughout his 90 years, he built a life defined by integrity, determination, and a steadfast commitment to those he loved. He showed his love not only through words, but through a lifetime of providing, supporting, and always being there when needed. His strength, dependability, and loyalty created a legacy that will live on through generations.

A true entrepreneur, Louis never shied away from hard work or a challenge. As a young man, he and his brother, Tim joined the US Army and served as Military Police Officers with a tour in the Philippines. He enjoyed rodeo, a passion that reflected the grit and perseverance he carried throughout his life. Over the years, he and his family owned and operated a gas station, a trucking company, sod business, and a successful wrecker service. After that, he founded his own sand and gravel company in 1980 and continued working until the age of 80 with assistance from his brother, Tim, and nephew, Mike, a testament to his remarkable work ethic.

While he was proud of his accomplishments, his greatest pride was always his family. He never missed his children’s ball games, cheering from the stands when he wasn't coaching. His dedication to St. Augustine Catholic School extended beyond his own children, serving as an athletic director and volunteering countless hours to the school and church. He was also a dedicated member of the Hutchins community, serving several years on the City Council. Louis was an avid collector of Sinclair memorabilia. His love of Sinclair began as a result of working in his father’s Sinclair gas station in Hutchins, Texas as a young man.

Louis found his greatest joy in time spent with his beloved wife, Lou Ann, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Though not a swimmer himself, he eagerly took family vacations to the beach, Arkansas, and San Antonio because he loved seeing his family together. He also enjoyed attending the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas and later making trips to Cheyenne, reflecting a lifelong love of the western heritage that shaped him.

Above all, Louis will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, businessman, and friend whose faith, generosity, and dedication to family touched countless lives.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 from 5 – 7PM, with rosary starting at 6:30PM at Byrum Funeral Home, Lancaster, Texas.

A celebration of Louis’s life will be at 11:00AM on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Lancaster, Texas. Graveside immediately following at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, DeSoto, Texas.
