Maria (Melaine) Magdelena Presas Magallan, age 84, was taken to be with the Lord on October 24, 2026 in her sleep. She was born May 29, 1942 in Corpus Christi, TX.
Maria skipped her junior year and graduated from Roy Miller High School with her sister in 1960. She graduated from Del Mar Technical Institute in 1964 with a nursing license. She married, had two children, and moved to Dallas, Texas in 1970. In 1977, she became a single mother raising her children with the help of family and friends. She decided to return to school to get more education at Mountain View College, a few other local universities, and wound up transferring to Dallas Baptist University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree at the Mary C. Crowley College of Christian Faith and Graduate School of Ministry in 1989 on the DBU campus.
Throughout that time, she continued to work as a nurse in different private hospitals in the Southern Dallas area. In 1995, she began working with a deeper compassion (extending toward families) in various retirement homes eventually retiring at the age of 78 years old from Williamsburg Village Health in Duncanville, TX in 2021. She had very little personal time because she mostly worked the 2pm-Midnight shift, but she loved reading the Bible and other books, watching old movies, and studying herbal and natural medicine. One of her favorite things was telling anyone who would listen about the insights of scripture during her spiritual growth. She had great faith during her ups and downs in life and always felt blessed by God.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Ramon V. Presas and Juanita (Oropez) Presas; and her brother, Jose Lino Presas.
Maria was survived by her husband, Felipe Magallan; her daughter, Julie Ann Trevino and husband, Gerardo Trevino; her son, Phillip R. Magallan; her granddaughter, Victoria D. Trevino; her sisters, Juanita Maldonado, Oriela Ruiz, and Mecedes Hawkins; her brother, Ramon Presas, Jr. and wife, Juanita; and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday, November 5, 2026 at Byrum Funeral Home Chapel in Lancaster with a rosary beginning at 6:30. Funeral service will be at 9:30am on Friday, November 6, 2026 also at Byrum Chapel. Graveside service will immediately follow at Little Bethel Memorial Park in Duncanville, TX.
