Obituary

Mary Jane Colton was born October 10, 1942 and passed away October 25, 2021, two weeks after her 79th birthday. She was the daughter of Fred and Mary Orr of Lancaster, Texas.

She loved helping children learn as an elementary school teacher for 27 years serving most of that time at First Baptist Academy in Dallas and Spring Creek Elementary in Garland. She taught Sunday School at Town East Baptist Church in Mesquite and First Baptist Church in Lancaster. She participated in and filled leadership roles in Lancaster's Planning and Zoning Commission and the Shakespeare Club. She was an excellent cook and loved creating beauty in her home and garden. Most of all, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Mary Jane is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bob Colton; her daughter, Pamela Shuffler and husband, Terry; her son, Randy Colton and wife Kristen; and her beloved grandchildren, Colton, Luke, and Carissa Shuffler and Caleb, Lily Ruth, John, Eli, Mary Hope, Annarose, Ada Joy, and Jane Marie Colton.

Family will receive friends from 2:00pm to 3:30pm on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at Byrum Funeral Home Chapel with a celebration of Mary's life beginning at 3:30pm also in the chapel. Interment will immediately follow in Edgewood Cemetery, Lancaster.
