Mildred Jane Mayfield Hicks of Wilmer, Texas was born January 16, 1932 in Cedar Hill, Texas. She passed from this life on January 12, 2021 at her home.

Mildred was preceded in death by husband of 63 years, William Thomas Hicks; father, Charlie G. Mayfield; mother, Edith Cummings Mayfield; daughter, Patricia Daniel; sister, Lou Marrs; nephew, Donald Venable; son-in-law, Sidney Short; granddaughter, Alicia Farley; great-grandson, Aaron Young.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Deborah and Bill Faulkner, Teresa and Paul Lindquist, Julia Short and Ronny Blackwell; son-in-law, Alvoy Daniel; nephew, Charles Venable and wife Sharon; niece, Sharon Litke and husband Art; 7 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren.

Mildred's fondest memories of school were playing basketball for Lancaster High School. Mildred sewed and knitted for her family, sewing dresses, prom dresses and wedding dresses for all her girls. She would help with making/fixing uniforms for her girls and others. She shuttled her children & classmates to band/ball/drill team practices and games as well as late night pick-ups and all-around mom to all neighborhood kids. She had a love for painting, crocheting, needlepoint and cross-stitch and was still painting at 85. She baked/decorated cakes for birthdays and weddings, and other special occasions for family and friends.

Mildred loved gardening in the flower beds. She was involved in PTA organizing for carnivals, class parties, and helping teachers; Parliamentarian while her children were in school. Mildred was a member of the Wilmer FD Women's Auxiliary, delivering coffee/water and food to fire locations when needed, day or night. She worked for the City of Wilmer, a Fund-raising organization, and a rehab facility for a few years after the last daughter was out of the nest.

Mildred was active in her Church and sang in the Choir. Family and extended-family meant a great deal to her. She is remembered as a jewel, kind and loving to all the Wilmer kids, beautiful & wise by family and friends. She will be greatly missed by her family and her community.
