Nancy Lee Perley Odom passed away at the age of 87 on July 29th, 2026. She was a much-beloved daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Nancy was born in Greensburg, Kansas on August 29, 1938, to Leonard Charles Perley and Edith Ione (Corey) Perley. She was one of 6 children. The Perleys lived in Wilroads Garden (outside of Greensburg) until the family moved to Texas. Nancy became sick with scarlet fever around the time of the move and was left in the care of her grandmother in Kansas while the rest of the family moved to Lancaster, TX. Nancy was 11 years old when she was able to rejoin her family.

Nancy graduated from Lancaster High School in 1957 and immediately enrolled in the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Dallas. She graduated with her RN in 1959. Over her lifetime, she worked for Methodist Dallas Medical Center for 39 years.

Nancy Perley and Dan Odom were married on December 28, 1959, at First Christian Church in Lancaster. Dan and Nancy were married 56 years before Dan passed away. Three living children (Dannica Anne Brundage, Nannett Ione Morrison, and Douglas Truett Odom) mourn their mother’s passing.

Dan was a career Naval officer, and so the family lived a unique lifestyle, moving often as Dan’s job required. Nancy was a devoted Naval wife, along with being a nurse and mother. Nancy worked as a nurse in Texas, California, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Maryland to name a few places.

After Dan retired from the Navy, the family moved back to Lancaster. The family rejoined First Christian Church where Nancy served as a deaconess, a Sunday School teacher, and an Elder.

Nancy’s various activities included volunteering as a reading tutor for Dallas ISD, being a “career donor” for Carter Blood Care, visiting shut-ins for the church, and being a member of the Lancaster Center Street High School Alumni committee. She was an avid walker, walking up to three miles a day for many years. She was a member, and previous Worthy Matron, of the Order of the Eastern Star (OES) #943. She is remembered for her sewing, both for her family and for community members, making OES dresses; wedding, flower girl and attendant dresses; prom dresses, etc. She was a quilter and made numerous embroidered (cross stitch) baby quilts.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Norma (Jean) Connell and Helen (Joyce) Fowler, brother Dennis Perley, nieces and nephews, her in-laws and many, many life-long friends. She is survived by daughter Dannica (Dani) Brundage and son-in-law Mike Brundage of Sulphur Springs, TX; daughter Nannett (Nan) Morrison of Lancaster; and son Doug Odom and wife Ciara Gail of Desert Hot Springs, CA; brothers Charles Perley; and Phillip Perley and wife Betty Sue; grandchildren - Truett McLaughlin and wife Maggie, Darryl Deskins, Elizabeth Macy and husband Matthew, William Morrison; and great-grandchildren - Braydon, Kylee, Zoey, Gentry, Willow, Braxton, Oliver, Becca and Blayklee.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Methodist Dallas Medical Center for the gracious care provided to Nancy in the weeks before she died. Nancy donated her body to the Willed Body Program at UT Southwestern in Dallas. At a future date, she will be interred to join her beloved husband Dan at Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery.

A gathering to rejoice and celebrate Nancy’s life will take place at First Christian Church of Lancaster (750 W. Main St.) on August 22, 2026, at 1:00pm.
