Rita Sharon Smith Douglas was born July 20, 1949 in Dallas, TX to Earl McKinney Smith and Nynva J. Tyner Smith. She peacefully closed her eyes on August 6, 2022, in Red Oak, TX, and opened her eyes in heaven the same day that her mother did 23 years ago.
Rita graduated from Kimball High School in Dallas. She met the love of her life, Dickie, in Lancaster in 1972 and married him on his birthday, May 12, so he wouldn't forget! Rita started out in the mail room at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and worked her way up to being the supervisor of several departments before retiring early with over 34 years of service. Other than her family, she had 2 loves: cookbooks and Elvis! Those stories will be shared for a long time!
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Earl "Bud" Smith and his wife, Joyce; her sister, Linda Franks and her husband, Lonnie; and her son-in-law, Steven D. Moore.
Rita is survived by her greatest love of 50 years, Richard "Dickie" Dean Douglas; her daughter, Amie Dean Douglas; her son, Kenneth Scott Douglas and wife, Laurie; her granddaughters, Dylann, Lauren, and Reagan; multiple nieces and nephews; the entire Byrum family; and numerous other "kids" that have been with Amie and Scott from childhood till now.
The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 12:00pm on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Byrum Funeral Home Chapel with a celebration of her life beginning at 12:00pm.
