Robert S. McLarty, Sr passed peacefully at his home in North Richland Hills, Tx on April 27, 2022. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Berniece; his daughter, Ruth Ann Brockington; his grandson, Micheal Cockerham Jr.; his sisters, Corine Engelhardt, Kathryn Landers, and Margaret "Peggy" Ratliff; and his brother, George McLarty. He is survived by his son, Robert McLarty Jr and wife Rachael; daughter, Susan McEnerney and husband Jim; his grandchildren, Misty "Mitzy" Adams and husband Matt, Austin Cockerham and wife Melly, and Sean McLarty; his great grandchildren, Nathan Rueb and Riley Cockerham; his brothers, Tom McLarty and Richard McLarty; his sister, Mary Faulks; and numerous nieces, nephews and loved ones.

Robert was born on October 15, 1927 in Vernon, Tx to Shirley and Helen McLarty. He had many fond memories and stories of "growing up on the farm." The family moved to Dallas where he was introduced to and totally smitten by Berniece (nee Cran), the love of his life. They married on September 17, 1948. In 1952, Robert entered the Army and served 2 years on Active Duty in Germany as well as an additional 7 years in the reserves upon returning home. He and Berniece lived in Lancaster, Tx for over 50 years where they were faithful members of the First United Methodist Church. He was a 50+ year Master Mason and belonged to lodge #160 in Lancaster. He worked for 48 years at Austin Steel Company in Dallas, Tx as a Maintenance Foreman.

Robert was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and son. He enjoyed fishing and hunting but he mostly enjoyed spending time with his family especially around the holidays when he would smoke his famous Texas style brisket. To know Robert was to know goodness, humbleness, strength of character, faith and above all, love. He will be sorely missed, but his legacy lives on in everyone that was fortunate enough to know him.

Family will receive friends from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at Byrum Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will immediately follow at 1:30 in Edgewood Cemetery in Lancaster.
