Dr. Robert E. Nystrom's Obituary
Dr. Robert Elmer Nystrom, born July 4, 1922 in Peoria, Illinois and died December 9, 2022.
Dr. Nystrom is preceded in death by his father, Elmer Edwin Nystrom; his, mother Elsie Elizabeth Olander Nystrom; and his wife, Jane Nystrom.
Dr. Nystrom graduated from Dartmouth Medical School in 1944 and Northwestern University Medical School in 1947. From 1947 to 1949, he served in the United States Army as a Medical Officer. He worked as an ophthalmologist in private practice from 1953-1975 and finished his career at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Dallas, Texas as the Chief Ophthalmologist. He also served as an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Medical School.
His retirement years were spent back packing and mountain climbing all over the United States. He also loved to go dancing.
He is survived by his step-daughter, Charlsie Bynum; his granddaughters, Amy Bynum and husband Dwayne King, Angela Bynum and partner John Neese, and Andrea Bynum; and his great-grandchildren, Ella Jane King and Bryan Bynum-Kempf.
Graveside service will be at 11:15am on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas.
