Obituary

Born on November 12, 1938 in Lampasas, Texas, Roger moved to Dallas when he was 17 years old to gain employment to help support his younger brothers and sisters back home in Lampasas. He married Delores Jean Holman on June 4, 1960, and they lived in Balch Springs, Texas for 42 years where they raised three children. They moved to Quinlan, Texas upon his retirement in 2002. He later settled in Greenville, Texas in 2018 until he passed from this life on January 23, 2021.

Roger worked at Dallas Airmotive as a Machinist, at Al Morgan Auto Sales in Dallas, and was self-employed for many years until his retirement. He was a man of many talents, including woodworking and building construction, for which he had exacting standards. He was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing on the Colorado River and on Lake Tawakoni in his pontoon boat.

Roger loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and was a member of Robinwood Baptist Church in Seagoville, Texas for many years. He also supported several Christian charities and the ministries of Billy Graham, John Hagee, and the Salvation Army. He had a quick wit, and a beautiful, benevolent spirit, always checking on others and offering help to those less fortunate than himself.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Wayland Smith of Lampasas, Texas; his mother, Malinda Atkins of Seagoville, Texas; his brother, Billy Wayne Smith of Lampasas, Texas; and his sisters, Helen Plew of Ranger, Texas, and Edith Johnsen of South Bend, Washington.
