Vernon Humphreys was born October 4, 1943, in Watauga, Tennessee to Harold Lee and Sarah Bennett Humphreys, and passed away peacefully while surrounded by his girls, February 2, 2025, in Dallas, Texas.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Michelle of Lancaster, Texas; his daughter and son-in-law, Mandy and James Early of Dallas; his sisters, Barbie Bockmon-Stegman of Pittsburg, Texas and Carolyn Rushing of Lewisville, Texas; his sisters-in-law, Anne Crawford and husband, Brent, and Lisa Beth Smegner; as well as uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many other loved ones. He is preceded in death by his parents and son, Jeff Humphreys as well as countless dear friends.

Vernon and his whole family traveled extensively throughout the southeast due to their father's employment. They eventually settled around Johnson City, Tennessee, where Vernon graduated from Science Hill High School in 1962. After getting injured while playing football on a scholarship at the University of Tennessee, he moved to Dallas and began working in the electrical supply industry. He was drafted in 1965 and proudly served in the Army. Vernon became the unofficial social director at the Summit apartments initiating weekends around the pool, Wednesday night dinners, and parties. Through these activities, he met the love of his life, Michelle Kuehl. They married, and welcomed their daughter Mandy the following year. His greatest pride was in his children.

Vernon's life touched so many people from being involved in the electrical supply industry, the Dallas Margarita Society/Dallas Children's Charities, the Brew Crew, volunteering with youth sports and recreation through the many Lancaster organizations, the people of Lancaster's Country View Golf Course, and so many others we may not even know. He never met a stranger, or maybe they did not separate strangers after meeting. He loved people. Every lesson he imparted- about love, showing up for others, and making space for joy- lives on in the hearts of every life he touched.

To know Vernon was to know warmth, generosity, and a rare kind of wisdom; that life is not measured by personal success but by the love you invest in others. He did not just teach love- he lived it. Through his family, his friends, and the countless people who learned from his example, his legacy will continue to grow.

The family would like to thank Dr. Yu Cao, Dr. David Sher, and the countless physician assistants, nurses, technicians, and others who provided medical care over the past year.

A celebration of Vernon's life will be at 1:00pm on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Byrum Funeral Home Chapel in Lancaster, Texas, with a reception to follow at Lancaster's Country View Golf Course. All are welcome to attend.
