Virginia Mary Hulshouser was born July 10, 1929 in Fairland, OK to Thomas Edwin and Ethel Lorraine (McConnell) Milner. She passed peacefully from this life on May 1, 2023 at her home in Lancaster, TX.
Virginia grew up in Oklahoma with 7 brothers and 2 sisters. Her life wasn't easy being the daughter of a sharecropper, but they loved each other. Her family moved to Texas in 1948 when she was a senior in high school. She and one of her sisters stayed behind to complete school. Once Virginia graduated, she moved to Texas to be with her parents. In 1952, she married Rayford Hulshouser. He was her boss at the Oak Cliff Bank and Trust. They kept their love a secret for 2 years as they were not allowed to date as boss/employee. They built their house and life together in Lancaster in 1959 and adopted Michael in 1960. Virginia held many different jobs, but what meant the most to her was being a teacher's assistant and principal's secretary. Virginia touched the lives and hearts of many children, teachers, parents, and school employees over the years. Hers was a life of loving and giving, and she will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rayford; her beloved son, Michael; 8 of her siblings; and her parents.
Virginia is survived by her granddaughter, Whitney Hulshouser; her grandson, Michael Delaney Hulshouser and wife Maria; her great-grandchildren, Megan Rhea Newton and Lorelai Michelle Hulshouser; her sister, Imogene Wood; her daughter-in-law, Marcy Nitsche; numerous nieces and nephews; and her favorite neighbor, Gwynn Roberson.
The family will receive friends from 10:00am to 11:00am on Friday, May 5, 2023 at Byrum Funeral Home Chapel with a celebration of Virginia's life beginning at 11:00am in the chapel. A private interment will follow at Wheatland Cemetery.
