Walter Henry Bahn was born in Fort Worth, Texas on October 24, 1926. He passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026, at the age of 99 years. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, KG and Eleanor Bahn; his two older brothers, Kurt and Arthur; and his son-in-law, Mike Edwards. He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Bahn; his son, Clifford Bahn and wife, Carol; his daughter, Carol Edwards; his three grandchildren, Jason, Julie, and Emily; and his six great-grandchildren, Slate, Cole, Aiden, CJ, Brace, and Breezy.

Walter attended Lancaster High School and never forgot his first day. He stepped off the bus, and immediately laid eyes on "the girl in the polka dot dress." Not too many years later, those "dots" connected, and he married that beautiful girl - Mary Louise Roberts. They remained married for the next 83 years, and not until Walter's death, did they part.

After attending high school, Walter proudly served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Seabees, the Navy's elite military construction force. The Seabees not only acted as builders, but also as combat-ready infantry. Walter was stationed in the Philippine Islands during the bombing of Hiroshima, which eventually led to the ending of WWII. Walter always loved telling stories of his time in the military to anyone who was willing to listen, and sometimes to those who were not so willing!

Walter was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lancaster for many years. He served the church every Sunday as an Usher and always helped with the construction of the live Nativity scene at Christmas.

Walter excelled at all employment opportunities during his work life, but he was best known as the Director of Maintenance for Lancaster ISD. This position entailed the continuous upkeep of every school campus, inside and out, maintenance of all equipment, and the detailed care of every football, baseball, and practice field. He was always in demand and handled every challenge willingly and professionally. Walter opted to retire from this position in 1989.

Walter loved to fish, cook, watch old Western movies, and was still driving at age 99. Above all, he loved his family, and they loved him back tenfold. He will forever remain his wife's Knight in Shining Armor; his son's Hero; his daughter's First Love; a proud and loving Grandaddy; an honorable and respected WWII Veteran; a man of his word; and without question, "One of the Good Guys."

The family will receive friends from 12:00pm to 1:00pm on Friday, May 29, 2026 at Byrum Funeral Home in Lancaster. A celebration of Walter's life will be at graveside immediately following at 1:00pm in Edgewood Cemetery.
