Obituary

Walter Glenn "Sonny" Frier was born October 7, 1948 in Dallas, TX and passed from this life on October 13, 2023 in Lancaster, TX.

Walt was the son of a preacher growing up in the Baptist church. He joined the Army and spent 2 years there serving his country and fighting in Vietnam. After the Army, he joined the Coast Guard Reserves and served with them for over 20 years. Walt was also a police officer in Magee, MS, DeSoto, TX, and Richardson, TX as well as a dispatcher for Dallas PD. One of his greatest loves was being a choir director. He absolutely loved music and singing on any stage. It was joy that he was able to share his voice with so many!

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. John Frier, Jr. and Ruth Ailene Lovell Frier.

Walt is survived by his wife, Vanessa Jo Frier; his daughter, Lauren Ruth Frier Baker and husband Jason; his grandsons, Jackson and Camden Baker; his sisters, Nancy Edwards and Sharron Huddleston; his nephew, John Edwards and wife, Lana; his great-niece and nephew, Kelsi & Cade; his step-sons, Todd Neal and wife Mary, Ian Barrett and wife Kelty; and numerous cousins.

Family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at Byrum Funeral Home Chapel with a celebration of Walt's life to begin at 2:00pm. Graveside services will be at 9:30 on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas.
