William Mickey Anderson (89) passed away on January 23, 2023 with his loving wife and daughter by his side. Mickey and Peggy were residents of Arabella Senior Living Center and lived in the Lancaster and Red Oak areas for the past 30 years. Mickey was born in Graysville, GA on February 4, 1933. He graduated from Ringgold High School and was shortly after drafted into the US Army during the Korean conflict. He was stationed at Ft Hood, TX, the first time he ever left the state of Georgia. Through the promptings of his army buddy, Bill Brittain, he met Peggy Latham, Bill's sister-in-law, in Sinton, TX. Peggy recalls seeing him from a distance and noting, "wow, he's tall."

After a short courtship, they were married in Sinton on November 25, 1954, Thanksgiving Day. They enjoyed 68 years of marriage including having a daughter Milista "Missy" Anderson who is now a resident of Houston, TX.

Mickey was an avid golfer, self-taught and nearly obsessed with the sport for more than 50 years. For many years, he held a single digit handicap. He played every weekend during his work life and many days during the week once he retired.

In the army, he learned auto mechanics and made that his career. Having worked in many different auto dealerships in the Chattanooga, TN area, he spent the last 26 years of his career at Forrest Cate/Mountain View Ford, retiring as service manager.

After retiring and moving to the Dallas area to be closer to Peggy's family, he put his skills to work at such jobs as delivering funeral limousines and as a handyman for schools. When he wasn't playing golf, he liked to stay busy fixing and making things.

Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Vernie Ownby Anderson and his sister, Barbara Harris. He is survived by his wife Peggy; his daughter, Milista Anderson (Anna) of Houston; his sister, Dolores Hawkins of Ringgold, GA; nearby special nieces and nephews who helped tremendously with caregiving, Tracy and Teresa Brittain and their children, Harlow and Tripp; along with numerous nieces and nephews in his immediate family.

A memorial service and reception will be held at Arabella, Feb 4, 2023 at 3:00pm. Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life on what would have been his 90th birthday. There will be a memorial service in Ringgold, GA – details are pending.
